  • Kunjip

    New York
    Korean Restaurant / Asian Restaurant
Kunjip - Korean Restaurant | Asian Restaurant in New York.
Jun 25, 2013 best ktown food in town "My Take: Huge portions, extensive selections on menu, decent prices, opening hours till late night…sounds like my kind of place, or rather, sounds like anyone’s kind of place. This is the reason why Kunjip has been so immensely popular and probably will not go out of popularity for a long time. When I first discovered this restaurant from my high school graduation trip, I have never stopped visiting Kunjip since then. Out of the colossal varieties that Kuunjip offers, some of my all-time favorites include Gal Bi Tang (short-rib soup with glass noodles), seafood Soon Doo Boo Chigae (spicy seafood tofu stew) and pan fried octopus with udon. Don’t run away when see you the super long lines on weekday and weekend nights, the team at Kunjip somehow has a way to move the line up really fast and your steaming hot food will be there waiting for you when you get seated. The Scene: Located in the heart of Korea Town, Kunjip is a family style Korean restaurant that offers an extensive selection of authentic Korean cuisines. Open daily from 6am to 6pm, Kunjip is New Yorker’s favorite go-to spot ranging from breakfast to afternoon tea to late night munchies after clubbing. Despite of the crowdedness during peak hours on weekday and weekend nights, the convenience of location and opening hours is the reason why people keep returning. Recommend to visit Kunjip during non-peak hours for better service. Cocktails & Cuisine: Korean cuisine: Soon Doo Boo Chigae, Budae Chigae, Galbi Tang…and more Prices: Appetizer (small/large): $7.95-11.95/$13.95 to $16.95, Entrée: $14.95-$14.95, Cassreroles: $39.95-$49.95 What to Wear: Dress up, dress down, dress whatever you want. Guys: tshirts, shirts, jeans. Girls: tanks, dresses, flats, heels Insider Info/When to go: If you are an early bird, don’t miss out on Kunjip’s morning special that offers one-of-a-kind Korean style breakfast. " hide

  • Mughlai

    New York
    Indian Restaurant
Mughlai - Indian Restaurant in New York.
Jun 12, 2013 a taste of India "My Take: I have been to Mughlai on several occasions. There are various reasons for my repeated visits – the intimate yet friendly atmosphere, the attentive servers and the authenticity of the cuisine...but what really blows me away about Mughlai is the consistently high quality and standard of the food. As someone who can only take mild spicy food, the dishes in Mughlai are rich yet well balanced. My favorite was the Soog Ghast, a Nothern Indian lamb specialty mixed with spinach, was delightful and, thankfully, not super spicy. The Scene: Located in the Upper West Side, Mughlai is one of the most authentic and established Indian restaurants in town. Two words – “humble” and “intimate” would perfectly describe the vibe that Mughlai gives off. This local establishment offers a wide range of Indian specialties with a great range in spiciness, and also caters to vegans and vegetarians, which attracts a diverse group of customers from all over town. Cocktails & Cuisine: Indian cuisine: tandoor, curry etc. Alcohol: full bar. Prices: Appetizer: $6.95-12.95, Specialties: $16.95-20.95. What to Wear: Casual dating attire. Guys: T-shirts, shirts, jeans. Girls: tanks, dresses, flats, heels. Insider Info/When to go: Vegan menu is available. " hide

  • Poco

    New York
    Spanish Restaurant / Tapas Bar
Poco - Spanish Restaurant | Tapas Bar in New York.
May 19, 2013 Great Brunch Spot in East Village "My Take: While Poco is popularly known for its brunch, my dinner experience here was not bad at all. Coming in this East Village tapas bar for a late dinner, two of us ordered 3 tapas and a huge jar of red sangria to share. The portions are not huge at all but the quality compensates for it. I was in love with the Gambas Ajillo (shrimp in garlic sauce) and the Lobster Mac n Cheese – which tastes extra heavenly with the truffle bits on top. Though I find it a bit overpriced, I am still up to come back for brunch and compare the experiences. The Scene: Located in East Village / Alphabet City, Poco is a beloved spot for a young brunch-loving crowd. Depending on how tipsy you want to get, the brunch menu offers the $26.95 or $37.95 options for 1.5 or 3 hour table times with unlimited brunch cocktails. Try to avoid going anytime after 2pm, or you are almost guaranteed to wait for a long while even if you have a reservation. Cocktails & Cuisine: Sangria, Mimosa, Tapas, Brunch, Dinner, Beer. Prices: Brunch favorites $16, dinner: $10-20, cocktails: $8-12, beer and wine (by glass): $6-10. What to Wear: Casual. Very dressed down - shorts, tanks, anything you can throw on from your closet. Insider Info/When to go: Poco occasionally offers deals on Groupon - $82 for two pitchers of sangria and six tapas for brunch! " hide
