Apr 22, 2013 Carter Barron Amphitheatre Makes Summer Worth Celebrating! "My family loves the Carter Barron and many of us have gone there for concerts and other events since our youth. However, what I love about this venue is the fact that every Summer there are a plethera of concerts hosted by The Washington Post. Now the schedule is usually posted online from mid- to late May. In years past, I have registered on the National Parks & Recreation website for an emailed reminder of when the schedule is made available. This series includes something for every person's taste... everything from blues to reggae. There's poetry, dance , jazz... you name it and they probably have it. There are both local and international recording artists that grace the Carter Barron's stage. It is the place where I was first exposed to Grammy nominated recording artist, and DC native, Carolyn Malachi back in 2011. I still love her poetry and vocal stylings to this very day.

In addition, this lovely outdoor amphitheatre has park grounds and grill on the premises and you are allowed to either purchase concessions on site or bring in your own items from outside. The Carter Barron is family friendly and one of the hottest tickets in NW DC during the Summer months. For some, it may even be one of those best-kept secrets waiting to be explored. The trick is knowing how to get the tickets and a good seat once you are inside the park grounds.

If you want to grace the Carter Barron with your presence you must rise early the morning of the event of your choice (check the schedule to select a show), venture downtown in DC to The Washington Post headquarters located on 15th Street NW between L and M streets, stand on line @ roughly 8am or earlier to assure that you get tickets before they run out, and then walk away with a big grin on your face look forward to the evening since you were amongst the early birds to get the worms. What is even greater about getting the tickets is the fact that each person who stands in that early a.m. line can/will receive at least 4 or 5 tickets until they run out. So go ahead! Carry your camp chair and score those tickets for your friends and fam! I'll be celebrating this Summer. See you there!" hide

Apr 22, 2013 Bachelorette Bar Crawl Anyone...Location Tres "OK, sooo... one of my girls flew into town this past weekend for what was slated to be her going out with a bang ceremony before being permanently attached to her guy's ankle... a bit of ball and chain action. Unfortunately, the person responsible for the shindig was pretty wack... there were even kiddies running about (Seriously). She was pretty vexed and called me to vent. We went to about four locations Saturday night and the third was Masa14. I loved how the place was spacious, warm & fuzzy when we walked in. We were greeted at the door and headed upstairs following the sound of some hot rhythms. At the top of the staircase there was a glass wall filled with a bar and plenty of happy people getting their House on. Yes! It was HouseDC night! To the left there was a DJ spinning the tightest House tunes and on the right side of the room there was the reverberation of congos being played by a guy in the corner crowded by clubbers who were clearly feeling themselves and the bartenders. We love live music! It was amazing how everyone was friendly and seemed to be living the high life. There were people from all different ethnic backgrounds and walks of life... a sort of melting pot. I turned around and walked back through the glass door and realized I was on a glassed in rooftop deck which provided a lounge like atmosphere for those who opted out on the housing action. I turned around again and noticed a slope of beautiful flora and fauna which added a romantic aspect. People were housing, spinning each other around, getting their vogue on in circles, dancing and romancing. And yes... you can put your star quality on display by posing for pics with SkyLiteDC. They had a photographer on hand to capture the haps play by play and help us recapture our fabulous moments. Masa14 is definitely the type of place you want to go if you want options and variety in your experience. My girls and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and it made up for the devastating bachelorette party. In addition to all these, Masa14 is also an award winning restaurant. I have not tasted the cuisine yet, but I plan to take a dive into brunch one weekend and let you all know the results. With a name like Masa you might think that there is plenty of dough involved, but I am happy to report that there was no cover to get in on the excitement. You can check out Masa14 on line and opt in on the mailing list here: www.masa14.com" hide
