  • Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) - Museum in Los Angeles.
Feb 26, 2013 A Bustling Art Center You Must Visit "Besides being one of the most important art museum in Southern California, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art seriously takes into consideration the bustling lifestyle of Angelenos. To that end, they keep the museum fresh. Head to the information desk on any given visit and you can get a helpful sheet outlining all the activities for that day from closing exhibits to free concerts. The museum not only offers changing and permanent shows but also focuses on enriching Los Angeles' culture with film screenings, concerts, and lectures - most at no cost. You can even just roam outside and see the giant rock "Levitated Mass," the many pretty lights called "Urban Light" or the yellow spaghetti-like plastic tubes hanging outside. Perfect for a casual, fun visit or a more serious, introspective look at art. " hide

  • The One-Eyed Gypsy

    Los Angeles
    Bar / Live Music Venue
The One-Eyed Gypsy - Bar | Live Music Venue in Los Angeles.
Feb 26, 2013 An Alternative Bar Experience "The usual bar experience means tons of strangers mingling together, some waiting to muster up enough liquid courage to speak to a cute person across the room. That same atmosphere becomes all the more fun when you set in a bar separated from the main strip in Downtown with a theme that inspires you to get as whimsical as you want. One-Eyed Gypsy supplies the fun drinks - like their fantastic warm cider - and amusing entertainment such as an antique photo booth and Skeeball machines. On different nights, some sort of entertainment takes the stage to make the night even more interesting. On any particular visit you can hear a completely different type of music - the most recent resident band Ak and her Klashnikovs got people singing along to songs sung completely in another foreign language. Meanwhile, a girl in a white flapper dress danced like she belonged int he 1920s while an excited guy climbed onto his friend's shoulders. That atmosphere ultimately makes the One-Eyed Gypsy worth visiting. The people come dressed in all types of fashion so even if you don't want to dance you can entertain yourself people-watching. The drinks and food only amp the experience, especially if you're tired of the standard drinks in other bars. In fact, not much is standard about this place - it's even rumored to be haunted." hide

  • Wurstküche (Downtown)

    Los Angeles
    Beer Hall / Restaurant
Wurstküche (Downtown) - Beer Hall | Restaurant in Los Angeles.
Feb 26, 2013 Fun and Good Eats for Any Late Saturday Night "Plenty of restaurants dot the Little Tokyo and Downtown area but as far as hidden gems go, Wurstkuche ranks high on the list. It's rising popularity continues to put it on the radar of many Angelenos so on weekends, the line can curve out way past the entrance. On nights like these, DJs play loud music and most tables are full but they're occupied by an energetic, artsy crowd. Most people complain of the long wait and seating challenges but if you plan in advance, you end up with good memories for your mind and belly. On Saturday nights, park the car nearby and meander around the arts district for shopping and occasional exhibition openings or art events (MOCA Geffen is not too far). By the time those events end you can meet with a group at Wurstkuche - preferably one inside already saving you a seat. It will take a good number of visits to make your way down the glorious list of hot dogs and beers so rest assured the restaurant never gets old. The prices don't hurt your wallet too much and the employees always offers advice on what to try - sometimes even handing out samples while you wait in line. The interior on weekends makes for lively discussion and once you have a few beers - whether you opt for a delicious dark beer like the Spaten or a fruity one like the Fruli - you might even end up befriending the person on the wooden bench next to you. Just make sure you come in high spirits and with an empty stomach. " hide
