  • Yankee Stadium

    Concert Venue / Stadium
Yankee Stadium - Concert Venue | Stadium in New York.
Jun 3, 2013 Want a good ballgame? See it here. "Say what you like about the Yankees (what's that? They're awesome? Yeah, I know.) but this stadium is fantastic. It's an easy hop on the 4 train to 161st in the south Bronx. (Also the B and D trains, the bus, and the water taxi, if those suit your fancy.) I remember when the makeover was announced - I ranted and raged about it for a week. But in some ways this new Yankee stadium is even more classic and impressive than the old Yankee stadium. The exterior hearkens back to the architecture of the 1920s and 30s, but the interior is all modern. The sight-lines are pretty damn good no matter where you're looking from, in a way they weren't in the old stadium. There is more space in the seats and between the rows, so sitting for the four hours is far more comfortable and it's much easier to get around. They've improved access for handicapped and they've upgraded the food - they may not be 4 star restaurants, but who needs that in a ball park? Go for garlic fries and a hot dog with some beer and you'll be set for an evening of baseball. (Or soccer, since they play there when the Yankees are on the road.)" hide

  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art - Museum in New York.
Jun 3, 2013 The Met Museum "What can I say about this place? Just the sight of the building makes me smile. Every time I walk through those doors my feet move just a little faster to get my badge. There are some things that rarely change and there are some things that are always changing, and I love it all. The armor, the period rooms, the costumes, the newly remade Islamic exhibit, the temple of Dendur - there is an exhibit to appeal to every interest. They do have a habit of changing things in the halls without any real warning - you'll go one week and the same room may be closed the next - which can be disappointing. And let's be honest, there's no such thing as good cafeteria food. But I have never gone to a special exhibit and come out disappointed. Heck, I've never gone to a room I've been in twenty times and come out disappointed. The whole building is magic. It's even located between two entrances to Central Park for your convenience. If you want to feel particularly cultured, stick around on Fridays and Saturdays after five. They'll play you some live classical music while you sip cocktails on the balcony. And guys, read the sign before complaining: The print is smaller than the price, but it says right there that the prices listed are recommended. Give 'em a quarter - they'll take it without blinking. (I try to give $5 every visit; I want this place to stay solvent!)" hide

Bryant Park - Outdoor Activity | Park | Square in New York.
Jun 3, 2013 The unexpected park "Unless you're a New Yorker, you probably wouldn't expect to find a park on the outskirts of Times Square. Located behind the 42nd Street Library (yeah, the one with the lions), Bryant Park is a wonderful spot for a break in the middle of a long day. It's quiet and shady in the crazy of summer, offering events in the green, and the holiday set up around Christmas is a quaint pleasure to explore. The Christmas tree they put up is as nice, if not nicer, than the Rockerfeller Center tree. If you're into fashion, this is the place to go during fashion week to catch a glimpse of the newest trends and well-dressed people. Perhaps the best thing about the park is that they offer ice skating during the winter - on the best rink the city has to offer if you ask me. This is definitely the place to come and relax." hide
