Jun 24, 2013 Fantastic but tiny "The food here is great, and it's a good spot for a date or brunch. The only downside, of course, is the tiny size of the place. At night I often don't bother and head over to People's Republic or somewhere in Central instead, especially if I'm with more than one or two other people. On the positive side, they usually have soccer games running during the day, especially during the World Cup. There isn't usually a big crowd for that since most soccer fans head to Phoenix Landing, but in the summer it can make for a great afternoon of day drinking. The menu, both food and beer, isn't huge, but it packs a punch and has a lot of variety. The staff is friendly, but if you're trying to squeeze in when you clearly don't fit (or you're getting in the way of people sitting at tables) they're not going to love you. " hide

Jun 24, 2013 Delicious beer, Delicious tots. "Lord Hobo is a great spot to get good beer and some upscale comfort food. Definitely get the tater tots and give the lamb lollipops a try. No, they're not as weird as they sound. If you're still nervous, talk to the waitstaff who are always friendly and helpful. They don't hold back on their opinion either, so they will actually tell you if something isn't their This is a great place to go with a small group of friends, and I almost always see someone I know while inside. The music is great, never too loud, with a hefty emphasis on nostalgia. There are often quite a few 20something and 30something singles there, but it's not the kind of place to attract or tolerate creepy folks. This is the domain of the plastic-glasses guy from a tech startup who homebrews, not some bro with a popped collar who asks if you have a twin. The beer list is extensive and rotates, so make sure you start picking out your next beer as soon as yours arrives. And of course, order another round of tots. I really cannot emphasize enough how much you should be consuming the tater tots. " hide

Jun 24, 2013 Cheap food, good beer, no tourists "This place is a little hidden away treasure in Harvard Square. The first time I went I almost missed the door, which is down what looks like some back steps. Nope, it's not the emergency exit, it's the entrance to one of the best bars in Harvard Square. The waitstaff at Grendel's Den never bother you, but they're always easy to located when you need something. They also have a pretty extensive knowledge of beer and make great recommendations if you're looking to branch out or aren't usually a beer drinker and need some guidance. At night the place can get crowded and is definitely a younger scene with mostly college kids, but during the day you can find all types taking advantage of the beer selection and great lunch offerings. The lunch specials at this place are phenomenal. Super cheap, a variety of options, and I never leave hungry. Personally, I find this to be a rest haven of sanity from some other Harvard Square restaurants that tend to be expensive and overrun with tourists. Take a load off and enjoy the Den--you'll be glad you got away from the crowd." hide
