  • Oldfield's Liquor Room

Oldfield's Liquor Room - Bar in Los Angeles.
Jun 14, 2013 Keeping It Simple: Good Times and Great Drinks "For a great drink, there is no place quite like Oldfield's Liquor Room. Oldfield’s combines an old-school look with a nice music mix for an excellent drinking experience. The bar has plenty of room for a group of friends to hang out together, and it’s usually full of friendly, interesting people who are easy to talk to and happy to socialize. The old-fashioned vibe and eclectic clientele makes this a unique experience that is a must for anyone who enjoys the bar scene. Once you are there, it is easy to get caught up for hours in Oldfield’s enjoyably laid-back atmosphere. Although the place can get a bit crowded, there’s usually a place for you and your friends to sit back and relax. Where Oldfield’s really shines, however, is with talented bartenders. Capable of making a wide variety of drinks, with choices that aren’t just limited to the already extensive menu, Oldfield’s bartenders have something for everyone. Even better, some of the bartenders can mix you a drink based on how you are feeling at that very moment. Just offer a couple of details, such as your mood, types of liquor you do or don’t like, or whether you prefer things bitter or sweet, and these skilled mixologists can do the rest. In general, Oldfield’s keeps it simple and offers fantastic drinks. While somewhat pricey (when it’s not Happy Hour), there is not much more you could ask for. " hide

  • Next Door Lounge

    Los Angeles
    Restaurant / Speakeasy
Next Door Lounge - Restaurant | Speakeasy in Los Angeles.
Jun 14, 2013 Speakeasy Done Right "When heading towards the Next Door Lounge, I had no idea what to expect. There is no sign marking its entrance, only a neon key. A delightful old man in a top hat and tuxedo serves as gate guardian for the door, where a password is required to enter. Once uttered, the secret phrase grants entrance to an intimate space that transported me into the bygone age of the 1920s. There are no windows, which creates a dark setting that sets the mood perfectly. Servers clad in red period outfits and feathered hats are constantly coming by to make sure all my food and drink needs are met. Between the servers’ neat bowties and the classic décor, the lounge feels like an authentic speakeasy with a cultivated air of refinement. I found the happy hour menu to offer a great blend of food and drinks at affordable prices, but then most enjoyably even when prices resumed everything was still reasonable. Add that to the complimentary snacks they provided, and the Next Door Lounge was a fine place to spend my evening. The intimate setting made it very easy for me to talk to people, a rare quality in places that get as crowded as the lounge can at times. When I’m finally ready to leave, I slipped out the door, bid the man in a top hat adieu, and returned to the real world, feeling enriched by the experience and looking forward to returning in the future. • Yard House

    Los Angeles
    Restaurant / Sports Bar
Yard House - Restaurant | Sports Bar in Los Angeles.
Jun 14, 2013 Fun Time for All "The Yard House, located in downtown Los Angeles and a part of LA Live, is a bustling restaurant with vibrant energy. Covered with flat screen TVs and containing a great bar full of plenty of drink options, the Yard House offers a welcoming experience that serves a wide range of customers. Whether the patron is a sports fan watching their favorite teams playing, a young professional relaxing after a day of work, a family enjoying a meal during a night out at LA Live, or USC students having a nice dinner together after a hard week of studying, everyone is warmly welcomed at the Yard House, making it a fun place for all to eat, drink, and converse with friends and family. In addition to the wide drink selection, the Yard House also offers a full menu of excellent food. While not the cheapest, it’s worth what you paid for, but try and make it for Happy Hour, when you’ll be hard pressed to find a place with more bang for your buck. Filled with a variety of great food choices, including pizza, burgers, and even seafood, it is easy to find something to love on the menu. The chicken nachos are a tasty appetizer to eat and share with others while you wait for the main course. While there are a lot of positives, the Yard House isn’t perfect. Its prime location and broad appeal mean it can get quite busy, which can lead to a long wait for your table and a loud dining experience once you get there. The service is generally fine, but it won’t always be the fastest, especially during peak dinner hours. Overall, if you’re wishing for a quiet evening out, you’re better off finding a different restaurant. But if you’re looking for good food, good drink, and an exciting, high-energy experience, the Yard House just might have what you’re after. " hide
