I'm not going to lie. I went to some of these places before I was 21, but we're just going to pretend that I'm a law abiding citizen and this whole going to bars/clubs thing is new to me ;)

  • Roka

    London
    Restaurant / Asian Restaurant
Roka - Restaurant | Asian Restaurant in London.
Jul 31, 2013 Treat your tummy. "MY TAKE: Roka is in the same vain as other high-end Japanese restaurants like Nobu: high prices, extensive sushi and sake menus, etc. The things that make Roka better than other places, in my opinion, are the great service, inviting (but still trendy) atmosphere, and food that is completely out of this world. THE SCENE: The first thing that will catch your eye when you walk in is the huge grill behind the bar in the center of the room. Just take one glance at all the delicious food the chefs are cooking up back there, and you won’t be able to stop your mouth from watering. The restaurant is small, but not crowded. The clientele is varied. You’d be just as likely to see a family with young kids as a pair of B-list celebs. The only common denominator is that no one’s on a budget. COCKTAILS & CUISINE: Everything on Roka’s menu is divine. I’ve been several times and have yet to be disappointed, and the black cod is my standing favorite. If you’re in the mood for a splurge, I highly recommended opting for the premium tasting menu. It is 13 courses of heaven served on a fancy plate. Who’d want to miss out on that? I can’t say that I’ve paid much attention to the cocktails (the food has stolen the show every time), but I do know that they have a decent selection of sakes and other alcohol. PRICES: Again, this is not a place to come if you plan on being frugal. Main courses can run from about £25-£40. The premium tasting menu is £75 (minimum 2 people). WHAT TO WEAR: On weekdays, Roka has a more casual feel. On the weekends the crowd tends to be a bit more dressed up. Use your better judgment. Don’t show up looking like a bum, and you should be fine. WHEN TO GO: Any night that Roka is open. Just make sure you have a reservation. Even if you call an hour ahead of time, you’ll avoid having to wait an hour or being turned away. " hide

  • Honest Burgers

    London
    Burger Joint
Honest Burgers - Burger Joint in London.
Jun 27, 2013 Amazing Burgers, honest. "MY TAKE: Honest Burgers is a no-nonsense kind of place. They focus on making great, traditional burgers with out all the fluff you get at some other places. THE SCENE: The interior has a cute, rustic feel. There’s not much to the décor, but the style makes you feel like you’re sitting on a back porch somewhere waiting for your dad to finish barbequing. THE CUISINE: Usually, I don’t like menu’s with limited options. In Honest Burgers case, however, I think it’s ok that they assume their customers are looking for, well, burgers. The menu gives you three burger options: chicken, beef, and vegie. You can then chose from a selection of standard toppings including cheese, bacon, and “pickled cucumber.” Every burger is served with a side of their delicious rosemary house-made chips (fries), which you can sub for a salad or coleslaw if you’d like. That’s it. Super simple, and super tasty. PRICE: Burgers £7–£9. Beer about £4. Wine about £5/glass. DRESS CODE: Casual. WHEN TO GO: Go any time you like. But if you plan on going during peak dinner hours, it’s safest to call ahead and make a reservation. " hide

  • The Breakfast Club

    London
    Café
The Breakfast Club - Café in London.
Jun 27, 2013 It's the most important meal of the day. "MY TAKE: Personally, I’m just happy that this place exists. London is generally not a place you’re going to find good breakfast places. (If you’ve had a traditional English breakfast before this shouldn’t surprise you). The Breakfast Club is the exception to this rule. The only bone I have to pick with them is that they stop serving breakfast food at 5pm. I realize that this won’t bother most people, but breakfast for dinner is one of my favorite things in the world. THE SCENE: The atmosphere changes a little bit at every location. The original location in Soho was very near my apartment, so I went there quite frequently. It’s pretty small and they’re aren’t that many tables, so you may end up having to wait or share a table. End the end it all adds to the homey charm and charisma of the place. The eclectic décor and convivial staff give the place a very inviting feel. It looks like they just took whatever they found around their house and attached it to the brightly colored walls. Ironically enough the place was actually named after The Breakfast Club movie, and the place definitely does a good job of capturing all of that 80s angst and then making it cutesy somehow. THE CUISINE: Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, so in my own mini protest, I refuse to order anything on their menu that’s not a breakfast food. No matter what it was named for, a restaurant called The BREAKFAST Club should serve breakfast food, and only breakfast food, all day… but I digress. Their breakfast is delicious. My personal favorites are the eggs Benedict and the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. Also, make sure to order a side of the breakfast potatoes. You won’t regret it. PRICE: Breakfast £5–£11. Lunch/Dinner £8–£13. WHAT TO WEAR: Whatever you like. WHEN TO GO: FOR BREAKFAST! " hide
