Dec 12, 2012 So many peanuts "Oh, the Lodge. I am not a fan of any of the Gold Coast bars along that main strip, and The Lodge Tavern is no exception. The one upside is that, unlike Butch McGuire’s or (the now closed) Finn McCool’s, it is so tiny that there isn’t really any room for real dancing. Yes, people will try to dance, and it will get crowded and awful, but at least it’s more of a bar and less of a dance-bar… Also, prepare for peanut shells EVERWHERE. They have free peanuts up at the bar, and as people eat them they just throw the shells all over the place. I can’t even explain what it was like because I’ve never seen anything like it. Truly a disgusting spot." hide

Dec 12, 2012 Glad it's closed "I am SO glad this place is closed. This was the location of one of the most horrible bar experiences I have ever had the DISpleasure of having. It is located right in the middle of all that is unholy on that dreaded stretch of the Gold Coast. The clientele is pretty much really over-dressed drunk girls trying to make themselves feel better by drinking lots of shots, and sleazy dudes making every effort they can to pick up those drunk girls and take them home. I mean, seriously, they had a freaking cage that people could dance in. More like make a fool of themselves. The place was awful and I do not feel bad at all that it no longer exists." hide

Dec 12, 2012 Awesome spot for improv! "What a cute little improv theatre! I have only been to the downstairs theatre, but I had such a wonderful time. My coworker was in an improv group that performed there, so a bunch of us went after work to see her. We drank tons of lemon drop martinis and laughed ourselves silly. It was a wonderful time. I highly recommend iO for a few reasons. The first is that it is small and intimate, with little bar tables (much like Second City) where you can sit and have drinks with your friends during the show. The second is that it is a really inexpensive improv venue! Most shows are between $5 and $10, and some of them are totally free! Definitely worth checking out if you’re into comedy at all." hide
