Opera Plaza Cinema Theater Theater

Located on Van Ness Avenue near San Francisco’s Civic Center and to City Hall, Davies Symphony Hall, and the Downtown Library building, the Opera Plaza Cinema Theater serves up independent, foreign, and self-described “smart Hollywood” films to discerning filmgoers. Featuring two small screening rooms (seating about 20 people each) and two larger auditoriums, the Opera Plaza Cinema Theater’s claim to fame is its intimacy, including old carpet and flannel-covered armrests on the chairs. Since 1991 it has been operated as part of a small chain of SF movie theaters owned by Landmark Theaters, which includes the Embarcadero Center, Bridge Theatre, Clay Theatre, and Lumiere Theatre. The Opera Plaza Cinema Theater features an 80s Art Deco aesthetic and recently launched an “Early Bird Special” on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, where tickets are only $6. Be prepared for a hearty personal greeting from the staff before each film.

Parking for events at the Opera Plaza Cinema Theater is available on surrounding neighborhood streets. Underground valet parking is also available at Opera Plaza Mall for $10.
