The SAP Open is an ATP World Tour 250 Series tennis tournament that is played early in the tennis calendar (February) at HP Pavilion at San Jose in San Jose, California. The HP Pavilion was first opened in 1993 and has a seating capacity of 11,386 for tennis matches, but can seat all the way up to 19,190 for concerts. The stadium also plays host to the San Jose Sharks National Hockey League team.
The SAP Open is actually one of the oldest tournaments in the United States with roots that date back to 1889. It has changed venues and names multiple times since then and finally settled on the SAP Open in 2005.
Past SAP Open winners include Arthur Ashe, Rod Laver, Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Ivan Lendl, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Andy Roddick, and Andy Murray.
