alexeyausberlinNov 18, 2012By all means Vesuvio Café, Beatnik Museum, and CityLight Bookstore are the must.
You can easily do all three in less than two hours or decide to spend the entire day. Both ways you are guaranteed one-of-a-kind experience. Perhaps, it's the thematic link between the three, the motif behind that constitute this uniqueness, but it also likely to be that simple fact that we don't have an abundance of places with such a blend of history, literature, (counter-)culture, and ambiance. Not in America; sounds more like Parisian Café du Flor.
Well, yes. In San Francisco. Broadway at Columbus Avenue. Less than a mile walk from Embarcadero BART and MUNI station. Start with the museum just to get the background straight. Familiarize yourself with Beatnik's history and shop the vinyls. The admission cost is $9 and $5 if you are a student. Then stroll through aisles of books to get amazed: rare titles, beautiful covers. Walk across the lane to have coffee at Vesuvio. ($2 for a cup.)
In word, an ideal place.
