The New Parish, opened in 2009, is a live music venue situated in the heart of downtown Oakland. Located on the site where the popular Sweet Jimmie’s once stood, the New Parish is designed to showcase a completely different scene than San Francisco.

Concerts at the New Parish have included a wide variety of performers, including Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Junior Reid, J. Tillman from Fleet Foxes, space-rock guitarist Stu Allen, Oakland funk-band The Coup, Ra Ra Riot, Mos Def and Kid Sister.

With a 400-person capacity, The New Parish features a balcony section with tables that overlooks both the stage and general admission floor. Music-goers can also gather on the outdoor smoking patio that peers into the neighboring restaurant Hibiscus.

Azucena Rasilla Mar 15, 2013 4.0 stars Oakland Venue = Memorable Night! I love Bay Area Venues! I love the venue even more, if it happens to be in my hometown of Oakland. The New Parish holds a distinctive place in my heart, precisely for this very reason. The New Parish is in the heart of uptown, conveniently located about 3 blocks away from the 19th St BART exit, or with plenty of parking around if you decide to drive. The ambiance of the venue is chill, non-pretentious - there is a fully stocked bar, a second level with seating. And, whether you stand in the downstairs area, or head upstairs for the show, the view from any angle inside the place is fantastic. For those who like to take smoke breaks, or prefer to take a break from the music, there is a patio with plenty of tables and chairs. On any given night, and once the show is over, you can find the cooks from Hibiscus (the restaurant next door) cooking up a storm. It beats trying to find a place where to eat after you enjoy a night of music. If you stay, there is also another fully stocked bar adjacent to the patio called Rock Steady. The New Parish is a hidden gem on San Pablo Ave, and luckily for us music lovers, the venue is building up an established reputation as the venue where artists want to perform. It doesn't matter if you go to a show during the week, or on the weekend, guarantee that you will have the time of your life!

Carlos Flores Jan 7, 2013 4.0 stars Great venue to see one of your favorites Had the pleasure of seeing Kendrick Lamar here and had a good time. Get there early or get there late (though I recommend getting there early if you're trying to stand close to the stage), I guarantee you will still get a good view of the show you came to see. This is a great local venue in the heart of downtown Oakland. It was bit on the smaller size and had that underground/edgy feel to it. Getting a drink was a little difficult but thats only because they have one main bar. I recommend that after you get a drink, you head up-stairs. They have a great 2nd level where you could find some table room, or space for a big group to all hangout in and still catch great views of the stage. It does tend to get stuffy inside but they also offer a great patio/outdoor area (hope you don't mind the smell of smoke). Its close to BART and a few other cool bars and restaurants too. Overall the Kendrick show was amazing and so was the venue, I have great footage to back it up!
