Marina / Cow Hollow, San Francisco –
Catering daily to the discerning Marina party crowd, CIRCA is a chic and trendy lounge that’s equal parts restaurant, dance club, and budget-friendly mimosa lover’s paradise.
Reminiscent of a classy hotel lobby, the ground floor features high ceilings, thick square pillars, and dark oak paneling, all a-twinkle with soft hues from the cascading strands of crystallized lights.
The centerpiece is the large square bar, accessed on all sides by the well-dressed young regulars who drop in for a midweek Happy Hour drink or to snack on grilled mahi and bone-in chops garnished in wilted dandelion greens.
A chill vibe dominates until Thursdays, when at 9pm many of the tables are cleared from around the bar and a DJ spins Top 40 and dance-friendly mixes that get the trendy crowd on its feet.
Patrons who haven’t finished their dinner or who want to sit one out take to the plush booths and occasional empty table around the quickly packed inner floor, or escape upstairs to the bottle service area where the walls glisten with mirrored panels, private parties pour through buckets of booze, and everyone enjoys a bird’s-eye view of the action below.
Bottomless mimosas for brunch round out the week, when cosmopolitan ladies out shopping and made-up college girls still half-cocked from last night sling back a few flutes, eat too many eggs, and pretend that Monday never comes to CIRCA.
Trendy young women, yuppies, big birthday groups, Marina dwellers looking to dance, preppy guys looking to game, suburban kids in for the weekend looking to get rowdy in style, and mimosa lovers, mid-20s to mid-30s.
DJs spin dance-friendly mix of Top 40, house, hip-hop, and electronica Thursday through Saturday nights.
Menu of New American cuisine including roasted figs, lobster mac and cheese, burgers, an assortment of fish and steak dishes, and pasta. Happy Hour M–F open–7pm.
No cover charge. Brunch $9–$14, appetizers $6–$10, entrées $12–$19, desserts $7–$13. Beer $4–$7, wine $6–$9+, cocktails $8–$12, bottle service $200–$280+.
Trendy and chic: designer jeans, button-downs, fitted blazers, Ed Hardy anything, slinky cocktail dresses, sky-high heels, off-the-shoulder dresses.
Saturday nights for the biggest crowd of festive young club types packing it in on the dance floor, or Saturdays and Sundays during the day for a boozy brunch.
Matrix Fillmore (3138 Fillmore Street) is a smaller hip and trendy Marina lounge that’s perfect for drinks and conversation earlier in the evening.
