SF Comedy Shows Overview
SF may be a relatively small city, but there are a whole lot of San Francisco comedy shows worth checking out in this seven square-mile town.
Some big names performed early in their careers, breaking their bones in SF’s stellar comedy clubs, including Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, and Margaret Cho, and the city consistently attracts top out-of-town performers that bring audiences to happy tears.
Those looking for the biggest headliners in their quest for SF comedy shows need look no further than Cobb’s Comedy Club in North Beach, while The Punchline located Downtown is quite a bit smaller but also a good bet for national stand-up talent.
Those in the mood for improv will find the comedy shows in SF are quick to provide some great off-the-cuff comedy action, especially BATS Improv, a hugely popular group that plays at the Fort Mason Center every Friday and Saturday night at 8pm.
The Purple Onion, meanwhile, is an intimate underground club that is well-loved and respected by comedians on the circuit, and guests can grab a full dinner at the Italian restaurant upstairs before checking out a great comedy show below.
