Yoshi's Oakland (Oakland, CA) Information

Yoshi's Oakland (Oakland, CA) - Jazz Club in San Francisco.

Originally opened in 1972 as a small Japanese restaurant outside of the UC Berkeley campus, Yoshi’s has become regarded as one of the premier jazz clubs in the country.

After relocating in 1977 to Claremont Avenue and reopening as a larger, 100-seat restaurant, the owners added a full bar and lounge to the venue, regularly featuring live music. Notable past performers at Yoshi’s include Susan Muscarella, Pete Escovedo, John Santos, and Benny Green.

In 1985, Yoshi’s expanded again with the owners building an adjacent nightclub, which served as a full time concert venue.

The current Yoshi’s Oakland opened in 1997 within Jack London Square. The 330-seat jazz club features a state-of-the-art sound system. Concerts at Yoshi’s range in music genre from jazz and blues to neo-soul and Afro-Cuban.

The atmosphere is on FIRE at Yoshi's Oakland full bar and lounge . . .

Let's talk the same language - Super Great Atmosphere for dining and easy listening to the best music by talented artists. Surrounded by state of the art sound and mouth watering japanese cuisine, you cannot go wrong. Pamper yourself. Yoshi's will take you to another place. Don't miss the opportunity to cover yourself in pleasure by joining Bay Area Locals at this lovely venue!
A Favorite of Musicans and Music-Lovers: Yoshi's offers a venue so intimate you can feel the music...and might even meet your favorite musician as well.

Every time that I have been to Yoshi's, one of the first things the musicians say is that this Oakland-based venue is one of their favorite places in the world to perform. As a musician myself, I can see why. Yoshi's offers a uniquely intimate setting for musicians to connect and interact with a truly appreciative audience. From Yoshi's stage, musicians can see the faces of fans as they react to their music, laugh at their jokes and sing along with their favorite songs. It is an amazing feeling for both parties involved. Last time I was at Yoshis, I was able to hang out and chat with one of my favorite jazz vocalist, Jane Monheit, after her performance. It was epic--I had to pinch myself. Yet it also felt as if we were just two people getting to know each other and sharing a love for music and life. While I won't promise you will always get to meet the artist, your chances of having this kind of experience at a big concert hall is much lower. Even without a face-to-face meeting, a performance at Yoshi's is much more personal and leaves you feeling like you know the musician at a deeper level than before. While the setting feels incredibly comfortable and intimate, it's foodie menu, mixologist drink list and velvety decor also offers an air of sophistication and class that you might not find at most other music venues. Because of this, it is an excellent place to take a date. You will fall in love with this venue...and who knows, it may be the perfect setting to fall in love with that special someone, too.
Good performance venue, good performers, friendly and efficient staff and fun neighborhood
Peter C. Feb 21, 2013
Enjoy performers selected to remind a new generation of their greatness, to introduce new material for established acts and to showcase local talent. A mission they do well. The performing venue brings these acts up close and accessible for the audience enlivening the performance and creating an experience that give some bragging rights. Two shows a night makes it easy to get tickets, or permits decisions on when to dine and where to dine in this well developed neighborhood. Yoshi's food is not it's draw. The menu is full and the dining area provides direct access to the performance venue, but with all the choices in the neighborhood you may want to think of Yoshi's dining as a convenience rather than a preference.
Great shows

There's no shortage of great shows at Yoshi's. While Yoshi's generally features jazz artists, there are times where they mix it up a bit and feature something new. Once inside of the romantic venue, there are tables scattered around the small stage where you can sit down and enjoy drinks during the performance. There's also a fantastic restaurant outside of the theater doors that you can eat at before the show. Be warned that the restaurant is pretty pricey and is an upscale place to dine. There are other fantastic restaurants nearby though if you want to grab a bite beforehand.
