Foro Italico, formerly named Foro Mussolini after its commissioner, is Rome’s premier sports complex located just outside the city center. The massive forum, built in the early 1900s, houses various sports arenas including the well-known Stadio Olimpico.
Other features of the distinctly Roman-style complex include the headquarters for the National Olympic Committee, a tennis center, running tracks, and a swimming center built for the 1960 Olympic games.
The centerpiece of Foro Italico is Stadio dei Marmi, a stadium filled with marble sculptures of athletes meant to inspire spectators and players alike.
Annual events at Foro Italico include tennis tournaments such as the Italian Open, the ATP World Tour Masters 1000, and the WTA Premier Tournaments.
Foro Italico often hosts live concerts with past performers like Neil Young, Duran Duran, and Muse.
