La Festa di San Silvestro is a New Year’s celebration that occurs each year throughout Italy on December 31. In Rome, the holiday festivities include family dinners featuring a lentil dish, which symbolizes money and good fortune for the upcoming year.
The most renowned manifestation of La Festa di San Silvestro occurs in Rome’s Piazza del Popolo. Here, family and friends gather in the public square to dance, drink, party, and welcome in the New Year with midnight fireworks.
Aside from an hour-long display of fireworks, The Piazza del Popolo celebration features a classical music concert and is known to be the most impressive New Year’s Eve party in Italy.
Each year, La Festa di San Silvestro in Rome attracts individuals from all over the world as well as Italian political figures like the Italian President. Admission to La Festa di San Silvestro is free.
