Stadio Olimpico Information

Located in the northern part of the city, Stadio Olimpico is the main and largest sports and events arena in Rome. The stadium, which opened in 1937, is owned by the Italian National Olympics Committee and has a capacity of over 72,000.

Soccer is the primary sport played on the Stadio Olimpico field, which is home to the Serie A club teams, Lazio and Roma. The Italian National Rugby Union also uses the stadium as its base.

Stadio Olimpico gained fame when it hosted the 1960 Summer Olympics. Other past events held at Stadio Olimpico include the 1990 FIFA World Cup, the 2011 Coppa Italia Final, and the annual Golden Gala track and field competition.

The venue occasionally functions as a live entertainment venue with featured artists including Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Tiesto, and Sebastian Ingrosso.

Stadio Olimpico, which is part of the Foro Italico sports complex commissioned by Benito Mussolini, underwent remodeling in 2008 and is now classified as a UEFA Elite stadium.
