Party Earth Abbey Theatre Review

The Scene

With its authentic feel, dark wood paneling, and all of the standard Irish beers on tap, this classic Irish bar near Piazza Navona is the perfect pit stop for a pint or two while catching the score.

Centro, Rome –

With its authentic feel, dark wood paneling, and all of the standard Irish beers on tap, this classic Irish bar near Piazza Navona is the perfect pit stop for a pint or two while catching the score.

Although inspired by Dublin’s historic Abbey Theatre – and decorated with portraits of illustrious actors, writers, and directors as well as memorabilia from the theater itself – the pub is a decidedly sporty venue where fans cheer on their favorite teams in front of fourteen flat-screen TVs that broadcast every international sporting event imaginable.

Patrons shouldn't fooled by the deceptively small front room – the pub actually extends into room after room of additional seating, as well as an upstairs area that is opened on the busiest nights and weekends.

Half the barstools are usually occupied by English-speaking regulars, while the high wooden tables and corner benches are packed with groups of study-abroad students or international thirty-something patrons.

Whether it’s the incredible student discounts, the selection of sports, or the wildly popular Pub Quiz nights, Abbey Theatre keeps its spirited crowd coming back time and time again.

Tip from Lucas:

Abbey Theatre hosts a great Pub Quiz on Mondays where the winning team is rewarded a bottle of whiskey. However, you need to make a reservation in order to participate. Be sure to call ahead.

Abbey Theatre User Reviews

leslie conner Feb 27, 2013 4.0 stars You won't find a better pub in Rome We struck gold when we stumbled into The Abbey Theatre Irish Pub our first jetlagged night in Rome. It’s your typical American-style Irish pub from the generous drinks to the dark wooden bar top, and can easily become your go to place for a few rounds. They feature live music, rowdy crowds, and daily specials like the infamous Taco Tuesday. What separates this pub from all the others is the crowd it attracts and the bartenders that keep it going. Unlike a lot of Irish pubs in the city, the Abbey has a constant flow of new faces mixed in with permanent locals. You’ll get the 20-something ex-pats, local Italians, worldwide tourists, and of course the study abroad college crowd all mixed together. It’s a great alternative to the overwhelming crowds at Scholars and the belligerence of The Drunken Ship. I’ve had in depth conversations with locals and ripped shots of tequila all in the same night. The bartenders are lively and seem to remember every person’s name. This pub is whatever you want it to be, depending on the drink in your hand. Whether you walk in alone or with a group, you’ll leave with some new friends and killer stories. The Abbey offers the perfect place for a rowdy weeknight or pit stop to pregame before the club. But take my word, you might find yourself not wanting to leave!
fabifibra Dec 12, 2012 4.0 stars very beautiful irish bar! I like very much the Irish bars, and am very happy when my American friend is taking me here. Abbey Theatre is very big bar, very different from Italian bars. There is much Irish flag and forest in this bar, and many famous Irish peoples on the walls. Also very much rooms! Is easy to lose himself walking in the bar. There is much student and foreigners here and is always nice to practice english. The barman speaks english too and is very friendly and patient to me when I ask for drinks. I like this place very much.
