Some might argue that performing arts in Rome are best highlighted in all its incredible buildings; that just staring at the Coliseum or the Parthenon is art in itself.
And while it might be hard to argue that point, luckily you don’t have to, for there are plenty of places in Rome to satisfy more traditional performance needs. Teatro dell'Opera is easily the top cultural venue in the city, with a calendar of amazing opera and ballet to expand one’s mind, though an even cooler venue might be the ancient Baths of Caracalla, which hosts audiences of two-thousand among the open-air ruins.
Stadio Flaminio is a major concert hall known to host varied shows throughout the year, as is the multi-use Palazzo dello Sport. During the warmer months, the streets themselves are a great place to catch performing arts in Rome, as denizens spill outside to enjoy dance performances, variety shows, and lots of live music, especially along along Via di Monte in Testaccio.
Those looking to catch a play should check out the latest schedule from Miracle Players, an English troupe based in Rome that performs original texts and comic adaptations of classics in various historical locations. Or you could just wander the streets, and let the Rome performing arts find you.
