Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds Description

A union of Australian and German musicians, alt-rock pioneer Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds came about in Berlin in 1983 when Australians Nick Cave and Mick Harvey, previously of the band The Birthday Party, began working with Blixa Bargeld, Hugo Race, and Barry Adamson. Only Cave is still part of the band, along with Martyn P. Casey (bass), Conway Savage (keyboards), Warren Ellis (multi-instrumentalist), Thomas Wydler (percussion), and Jim Sclavunos (percussion). Between 1984 and today, the band has released fourteen studio albums, all to critical acclaim, and appeared in the Wim Wenders art film Wings of Desire. In the 90s, Cave moved to Brazil to overcome a long-time drug addiction. Since then, he has steered the band in different experimental directions and has worked on many movie soundtracks, including for The Road, and helped curate Australia’s All Tomorrow’s Parties musical festival. In a departure from the Bad Seeds’ more orchestral music, Cave has developed a side project with his band Grinderman, which focuses more on garage rock.
