Formerly an auto-body shop, Freni e Frizioni (Brakes and Clutch) is now a stylish bar that people deliberately seek out for its diverse patrons and the electrifying, interactive atmosphere they create.
Once they walk through the wide garage doors, fashion-conscious Italians dressed to impress and artsy underground types have plenty of time to mingle as they wait for their drinks at the long bar in the back.
The interior space itself is divided into two distinct areas, but most of the action takes place in the front room, which still sports the original tar pavement of the body shop, as well as sleek black couches upholstered in tire tread.
Drinks finally in hand, though, patrons tend to head back out to the small piazza that Freni e Frizioni occupies – and where most of the socializing takes place – spreading themselves out on the few outdoor seats, nearby stairs, or low walls that surround the square.
Whether alternative musicians, bohemians, or trendy Italians, the patrons are laid back and outgoing, making Freni e Frizioni an excellent place to meet new people or gather with friends.
Youthful, energetic, and diverse, early 20s to mid-30s.
Mostly house, electronic, and rock.
Free aperitivo buffet with drink purchase, daily 6:30–10:30pm.
Beer €6, wine €5, cocktails €6+.
Smart casual.
Fridays and Saturdays are the most happening nights.
