Monti, Rome –
A cozy jazz lounge that makes the most of its limited space, Charity Café draws a continuous and loyal crowd of jazz lovers, musicians, and singers.
The charming venue features two distinct seating areas separated by an arch, one slightly off to the left with a few couches facing the raised stage, and another situated directly in front of the action.
The décor is limited to a wall papered with photos, signatures of musicians, and a few other mementos, though the well-dressed but low-key crowd doesn’t seem to notice as their focus is on socializing and soaking up the near-nightly performances.
With no cover charge – except for an obligatory first drink – and a varied roster of musicians and jam sessions, Charity Café offers an intimate and affordable experience sure to please any jazz lover.
Aspiring and professional musicians and their fans and friends, mid-20s and up.
Live jazz, bossa nova, and blues nightly except Wednesdays. Jam sessions on Thursdays, open to the public on a first come, first up basis. Summer schedule includes occasional live music, theme nights, and other special events. Check the website for a schedule.
Daily aperitivo buffet, 6–9pm.
Obligatory first drink €7/non-alcoholic or €10/alcoholic. Thereafter, beer €6+, wine €5/glass or €18.50–€26/bottle, cocktails €8, whiskey €6–€12. Open Beer Night €10.
Smart casual.
Thursdays for the open jam sessions or any night when there’s a favorite band playing.
