The best part about working for Party Earth was being able to scout out the cool bars and clubs that I wouldn’t necessarily have gone to before. Another great part about the job was getting the opportunity to meet so many interesting party people! That was so much fun.
The very first bar I had to review was called The Matchbox. I should have known from the name that it was an extremely small establishment, but I wasn’t prepared for how small it actually was! It was crowded on the Monday evening when my friend and I showed up, so crowded that we could barely squeeze through the throngs of people to get to the bar. I get ridiculously claustrophobic, and had an initial freak-out session, but after the friendly bartender made me one of his famous margaritas, I calmed down and really enjoyed myself!
My perfect day in Chicago would start off with brunch at The Fifty/50 in Wicker Park where they put bacon in their Bloody Marys and have an actual bacon bar. That would be followed by a walk along the Lakeshore and a stop at North Avenue Beach to play some beach volleyball. At night, I’d hit Benchmark and McGinny’s Tap in Old Town for some drinking and dancing.
