It gives me the opportunity to explore the city outside of my well-trodden arrondissements, and to unearth bars and clubs that I wouldn’t normally seek out. It’s also been great to find new venues that host live music, comedy, and other stand-up shows. And of course, I get to practice my French.

Contrary to the (inaccurate) stereotype that all Parisians are rude, I’ve found everyone to be extremely accommodating and helpful – offering advice, providing photos, taking the time to sit down with me and chat, even on a busy Saturday night, and giving me free aperitifs. And they’ve always been very patient and supportive through any language tangles. The Parisians are extremely proud of their nation and of their culture, and this comes through so much – it makes me love Paris even more.

Probably Jonah, as I’m indie music obsessed, and far more hipster and bohemian than I usually like to admit. I also relate to Emma, as I can easily lose myself in a day of culture, or while away an afternoon in a little bistro with a book and a café noir.

I live just a stone’s throw away from the Sacré Coeur, so I’d begin there with a croissant and café noir, admiring the view over Paris and watching the street performers before heading down to Le Marais for a lazy afternoon trawling the vintage shops. As night drew on, I’d head over to the 11eme – somewhere near République – to listen to indie bands perform in sweaty basements and dance the night away drinking mojitos.
