What is your favorite part of the job?

Aside from the obvious easy answer of free booze, I enjoyed the social aspect of meeting with bartenders, managers, and patrons. Having a purpose for being at a bar (aside from simply drinking) justified a lot of hell raising…definitely a great summertime activity.

Short Story/Anecdote from your time on the job:

Rock & Roll Hotel ended up being a pretty significant summer spot. Having been there a number of times before, I decided that Rock & Roll Hotel should be the first bar I reviewed (familiar territory, my sort of scene, etc). After a warm welcome and an ungodly number of shots, I left the bar a bit too drunk to even pretend I was going to review another bar that night. I go back a few weeks later with some friends, including a friend who had never been there before. I convinced him that the side rooms were actually hostel/hotel type areas (hence the name Rock & Roll Hotel), and that you could rent out a couch to pass out on for the night. When we sent him up to the bar to reserve a couch to sleep on for the night, the look on the bartender’s face was absolutely priceless.

Which Party Earth reviewer(s) do you resemble most and why?

I float between a lot of different tribes; I enjoy live music, DJs, and generally non-mainstream stuff (Jonah), but have Lucas-like tendencies to raise some hell, drink some cheap brews, and destroy you in beer pong.

What is your perfect day in Washington, DC? What are you doing and where are you going from morning to night?

Wake up at 9:30am. Do something physically active, either football in the park, softball on The National Mall, or skateboarding around town. This would be followed by brunch anywhere with bottomless mimosas, and then continued outdoors somewhere (ideally a rooftop bar) with more beverages. Some Ethiopian food for dinner, followed by a night of live music and DJs on U Street or H Street. Maybe Ben’s Chili Bowl before bed, because no day in DC can truly be PERFECT without Ben’s Chili Bowl.
