What is your favorite part of the job?

It’s great to have an excuse to explore new venues and neighborhoods around DC. As a college student, I tend to frequent the stereotypical “college” bars and clubs, but reviewing gave me an excuse to branch out a little more. It’s great to find fun new places to take your friends, not to mention the occasional free drinks.

Short Story/Anecdote from your time on the job:

In doing preliminary research for Smith Point, I was unable to find the bar hours posted online or get in contact with anyone. Since most bars are open on Thursdays, I hoped for the best and headed out with a friend. We got in with no problem, and I headed straight to the bar to talk to the bartender. He proceeded to tell me that the bar was only open Fridays and Saturdays. I thought out loud, “But it’s a Thursday night,” and was informed that there was a private party going on, which is why they were open. I had just accidentally crashed a private party! I quickly took some pictures (awkward), downed my drink, and got out as fast as I could before anyone noticed. But if you’re looking to get in without being on the guest list, crashing a private party may be your best bet.

Which Party Earth reviewer(s) do you resemble most and why?

I resemble a mix between Lucas and Emma. Though I like to dress up and go dancing, I frequent student bars in Georgetown that tend to get rowdier as the night progresses, like Lucas. And I also love theme nights, karaoke nights, and a good happy hour like Emma.

What is your perfect day in Washington, DC? What are you doing and where are you going from morning to night?

I’d start off by checking Twitter for the free flavor of the day at Georgetown Cupcake and heading to the Bethesda location, where the line is always shorter than the one in Georgetown. During the day I’d head to the National Mall to check out a museum or two and then hit Georgetown for some afternoon shopping and a happy hour. In the evening, I’d make my way out to The Brass Monkey with the intention of barhopping in Adams Morgan. To top it off, I’d end my night with a delicious piece of pizza from Jumbo Slice.
