Get Paid To Party

Chris Krovatin

New York

What is your favorite part of the job?

Seeing so many different neighborhoods. This job really got me heading out to every locale in New York, from the ritziest rooftops to the seediest dives.

Short Story/Anecdote from your time on the job:

I’m not the flaming-shots-with-the-Sevignys type, but I have a decent story. One night, at my friend’s behest, I went to “the most depressing bar in New York” – Holland Bar, a narrow linoleum watering hole that was in no way a cocktail lounge, where we drank draft Bud and watched Spanish-language Superman II at three in the morning. When I started up with Party Earth, they assigned me to the Holland Cocktail Lounge. After passing my beloved hovel three times searching for this fabled cocktail lounge, I realized that they were one in the same, and went and got lit up on dollar drafts. Great story.

Which Party Earth reviewer(s) do you resemble most and why?

Jonah, obviously, due to my love of counterculture and live music, and Lucas because I love beer, football, and general hell-raising.

What is your perfect day in New York? What are you doing and where are you going from morning to night?

Upon waking, I run along the Hudson River, then write for a few hours while drinking a pot of coffee. Then I head downtown, browse the shops noncommittally – Generation Records, Forbidden Planet, Halloween Adventure – and head to Burp Castle on 7th Street to read, relax, and have a pint. Come sunset, I meet friends at Horseshoe Tavern, where we blast Slayer and Clutch on the jukebox. As the night goes on, we head somewhere busted with lots of personality – Mars Bar, KGB, Duff’s, or the Levee if we’re out in Brooklyn. A scotch and some Sinatra on a buddy’s rooftop end the evening.
