I’m going to cheat and say more than one. The satisfaction I get from capturing a really great moment on my camera. Going to fantastic venues I might not have visited otherwise. Having an excuse to meet new people. Most people want their photograph taken, so it’s a good way to strike up a conversation. And if they’ve been there before, they can also tell you about the venue you’re reviewing.
I went with a friend to Notting Hill Arts Club, and we decided to try to take photographs of every group in there. The photo opportunities actually started finding me rather than the other way around. Word spread that there was a guy taking pictures for a website called Party Earth, and suddenly I was inundated with people asking to have their pictures taken. By the end of the night we’d met almost everyone, and there were people from all over the world – Cape Town, New York City, and Stockholm to name just a few. All in all a great night...although I did lose my favorite scarf somewhere along the way.
Judging by Jonah’s top five venues, I’d say I resemble him most. He takes advantage of the different areas in London that offer great indie club nights, which I also like to do.
Southbank is my favorite place to spend a day in London. As you walk along the riverside, you can see all the landmarks you associate with London – Big Ben, The London Eye, Houses of Parliament, and so on. There are lots of street performers there who can entertain you for hours. There’s also an IMAX cinema and the Tate Modern just a short walk away. For the evening, there are some amazing riverside pubs, which serve some decent food.
