Built as a hunting lodge on a bet between Marie Antoinette and the Count of Artois, the elegant Bagatelle Chateau and Gardens in the Bois de Boulogne now form the stunning backdrop to a program of cultural events, concerts, and an annual rose competition.
The Bagatelle restaurant itself, which serves lunch and dinner year round, is housed in the former stables and offers some stunning indoor and outdoor spaces that patrons can rent for events and special occasions.
As mouth-watering as the menu and décor may be, however, the real draw for those looking for a unique club experience happens on weekend nights in the summer. On Fridays and Saturdays from June through August – after the outdoor dinner service is completed – Bagatelle opens its doors to the public who arrive in droves.
While the main building provides a bar and limited seating, the real party is on the terrace where tables, tents, bars, and DJ booths miraculously appear. The resulting atmosphere is of an exclusive party in the French forest where people run about, chitchat, dance to the DJ’s tunes, and mingle freely with the other young, dynamic, and international patrons.
Getting to Bagatelle might require a bus or taxi, but this is a party not to be missed.
International mix of business people, couples, families, and travelers for lunch and dinner, outgoing younger crowd for the summer club nights, 20s and 30s.
Ambient music in the restaurant. Club nights feature guest DJs who spin a variety of music from electronic to hip-hop. Occasional themed events like the annual Trash Disney night.
Seasonal dinner menu. In summer, dinner is also served on the garden terrace and features a menu of roasted meats and vegetables.
Appetizers €11–€18, entrées €18–€26, desserts €9–€14. Beer €5, wine and cocktails €12–€15.
Casual to smart casual.
A warm weekend night in summer, but arrive around 10:30pm to avoid the long wait in line.
