Party Earth Review: With its three floors of drinking space and a staff that speaks numerous languages, The Long Hop is often considered to be Paris’ international student drinking headquarters. Passing through the bright blue entrance hung with flags from various nations, patrons find themselves in a typical American/British pub environment, the focal point of which is the L-shaped bar and its many types of English ale on tap. Well-worn wood fixtures, bar stools grouped around large wooden barrels, and walls covered in handwritten signs, neon beer ads, framed memorabilia, and TV sets complete the décor. Owners bill the venue as the largest pub on the Left Bank, and the spacious main floor is expanded even more for special events and on weekends when the upper terrace and lower cave areas are opened up. Happy Hours, theme nights, drink specials, DJs, and dancing in the cave draw great crowds just about every night as students pour in to drink and socialize. The exuberant clientele creates a party atmosphere that’s hard to resist and that only increases in intensity as the night (and week) wears on, as well as on warm days when everyone spills out onto the patio. Casually rowdy and unapologetically un-French, The Long Hop promises young expats a short trip to a good time. ... read full review |
