Pop In Music Venue

Like a slice of downtown New York in Paris, Marais Nord bar Pop In is a cool-without-trying space with three levels: a lounge, a bar, and a basement dance floor. The spot is filled with Parisian hipsters who are fans of the underground vibe, the low-key music, and the artsy crowd. Both twee and rock and roll, Pop In has been a popular destination since 1997.

Mysterious stairways likely lead to surprises on different floors – perhaps a retro sing-a-long around a piano or an impromptu dance floor. Music at Pop In is dominated by Britpop and electropop, though 80s tunes and the latest alternative bands also have a showing. The small space manages to squeeze in bands, often from far-flung lands, for occasional concerts. Sunday open mic nights at Pop In likely lead to hilarity and irony.

The group behind the bar also runs in-house label Pop In Records; music samples and sales are available on the bar’s website. Pop In is open every evening until 1:30am. Metro stops are Oberkampf or Saint Sebastien Froissart.
