The French are known for their wonderful sense of humor – so long as you don’t make fun of their food, dogs, movies, music, or military history – and there are a lot of great places to check out one of the many Paris comedy shows.
Many of these venues in Paris are historic, including the L'Ane Rouge, a small theater and restaurant that has been tickling le funny bone since the 1940s. French fluency is required to get the jokes at Rouge, but not to enjoy its hearty French menu.
The beautiful building of Theatre et Café d'Edgar has been around since the 18th century, but it has only been since the early 70s that this venue played host to young comedians and troupes looking to push the boundaries of comedy with both plays and traditional stand-up routines.
Blancs-Manteaux is a good place in the center of town to enjoy some affordable café fare and check out a one-man-show, while The Point-Virgule in the Marais features a large assortment of acts throughout the year, from single comedians to sketch comedy, impressions, improv, musical shows, and more.
Those who still need some time to work on their French can hit up one of the English comedy shows in Paris, including the New York Comedy Nights at Pranzo, which hosts an English-only open mic every Friday night.
If you need a pick-me-up, a great date suggestion, or just looking for some random laughs, then head to any number of comedy shows for a night of side-splitting stand-up.
