For those who wake up with a hunger that a croissant and coffee won’t satisfy there’s Twinkie, one of the more ambitious breakfast-themed cafés that have been popping up in Paris over the past few years.
The venue’s array of international breakfast selections – which include English, Scandinavian, and American dishes, among others – draws masses of college students rolling in for some pre-lecture caffeine, while chatty American tourists dig into their eggs and bacon, happy for some upscale home cookin’.
The café’s open and airy vibe, glassed-in kitchen, and clean stone walls give the place a glossy twist that attracts affluent young locals as well, not to mention the bleary-eyed Sunday-morning club hounds who stumble in for omelets after a night of dancing.
Far from the average greasy spoon, Twinkie offers a modern bistro experience to early risers who know that nothing says class more than a champagne and caviar breakfast.
American and English tourists, university students, preppy types, groups of young professionals, and hungover party animals, 20s to 40s.
Ambient music.
Menu includes international breakfast selections as well as sandwiches, salads, and bagels.
Breakfast menu €14–€19, sandwiches and bagels €8–€16. Beer €4.50, wine €4.50/glass or €24/bottle, champagne €40/half bottle or €75/bottle, coffee €2–€5.
Nice casual: slacks and cameras for tourists, shirts and skirts for the home crowd.
The line goes out the door on Sunday mornings, but it’s worth the wait for the sizzling breakfast bustle.
Two hundred yards to the west is Rue Montorgeuil (75002, between Metros Sentier and Les Halles), a busy artery full of bars and eateries.
