The creative cocktails are broken down between “For Him” and “For Her,” but the casual-cool and downright dapper regulars at Jefrey’s have no problem crossing gender lines to order from both categories before retiring on plush leather chairs to chat the night away.
Located in a historical building with a glass façade overlooking cobblestoned Saint Sauveur, the suave venue features soft chocolate and purple loveseats, dark ceiling beams, and dim lighting that fosters a romantic atmosphere, making it a popular haunt for first dates.
Though owners reportedly designed the space in the image of their favorite hotel bars, there are no private rooms to retire to, so guests take their signature Sazeracs and caramel-infused I Wanna Be This Drink drinks to the small silver tables that dot the ground floor.
The sofa-laden upstairs loft (available for private rental) gives gossiping groups extra space to chill out and immerse themselves in a vintage vibe buoyed by the wall-sized liquor cabinet and shiny gold gramophone – which was totally like the iPod of the 1870s.
The bar routinely fills with a foreign clientele on weekends, from chatty clans of expats, champagne-drinking Filipino housewives to European businessmen and cultured tourists looking to channel their inner James Bond with DIY martinis.
Handily located on the same street as a number of other popular bars, Jefrey’s makes for a sophisticated start or end to a night of barhopping, especially for those looking to fill their evening with classic drinks and conversation.
Cocktail connoisseurs, trendy post-grads, cultured whiskey fans, first dates, intimate groups of laid-back successful friends, and business types, late-20s to late 30s.
Music is mostly non-mainstream soft pop-rock that doesn’t overwhelm the small space.
Simple snacks, charcuterie, and small plates of meat, tomato, and cheese.
Snacks and charcuterie €12. Cocktails €11–€13+, aperitifs €7, shots €12–€59, wine €6, champagne €12/glass or €75–€350/bottle.
Casually trendy: well-fitted jeans, pressed shirts, stylish vintage wear, flowing blouses, cute skirts, high heels.
Friday and Saturday nights for a good crowd, a chill vibe, and the perfect place to start, end, or just stay the night.
Experimental Cocktail Club (37 Rue Saint-Sauveur) is a hugely popular cocktail bar that specializes in intricate classics, and that quickly spawned sister establishments in New York and London.
