Chez Camille is definitely not a bar people just stumble upon, but this trendy hole in the wall is worth the steep climb to the top of Montmartre’s windy hills.
Once patrons have found the little blue awning that marks the spot and their knees have recovered, they can unwind over a cocktail and a game of Scrabble with all the Parisians who love to bask in the bar’s welcoming intimacy.
There’s not much in the way of décor in this sunny yellow space, but the drinks are cheap, the conversation is easy, and the curious mix of customers is as friendly a group as one is going to find just about anywhere.
A younger crowd packs the place and spills onto the street later on in the night, so visitors may want to take advantage of the early afternoon hours when they’ll have more elbow room and may even be lucky enough to secure one of the two seats on the tiny terrace.
Regardless of when patrons show up, Chez Camille promises a relaxed, bohemian experience in a true home-away-from-home environment.
Let yourself marinate at this place for an entire afternoon or evening. Chill out and shoot the breeze with the regulars, who are rather fascinating characters. And while you’re in the neighborhood, you might as well climb a bit higher to Place Émile Goudeau for a great view of the city.
Artsy, liberal, trendy, and friendly, mid-20s and up.
Varies, but usually modern melodic techno.
Bar snacks.
Beer and wine €3.50, mixed drinks and champagne €6, mojitos €6.50, shots €2.80.
Casual.
Saturdays all day long.
