A music paradise for hipsters and punked-out clubbers, Cantada II offers full-on rock, punk, and metal beats in a dark-and-dirty setting.
Crimson walls, dripping candles, and goblin posters – not to mention the coffin and collection of skulls – make up the macabre décor, a fitting backdrop for the goths and metalheads sipping absinthe at the bar.
Those who want a moment in the spotlight can join the boozy students and grungers chugging pints and throwing back shots, getting ready to try their skills at rock karaoke.
Weeknights see events like comedy and film screenings taking place downstairs, though the tamer entertainment ends on the weekends, when DJs whip up wild basement dance parties that see mobs of pierced, sweaty punks letting loose to Black Sabbath on the dance floor.
Ideal for a night of moshing or singing like Dee Snider, Cantada II is the place to go for patrons with a yearning to channel their inner rock stars.
Rockers, grungers, hipsters, metalheads, punks, goths, students, and post-grads, early to late 20s.
Playlist of rock, punk, and metal music in the upstairs bar and spun by a DJ in the basement. Rock karaoke on first Friday and third Saturday of the month. Occasional events include comedy, wine tastings, underground cinema, and poetry readings.
None.
Beer €2.40+, wine €2.30+/glass or €12.30+/bottle, cocktails €3.80+, absinthe €5.40+, champagne €7/glass or €50/bottle.
Casual rocker or hipster gear: ripped jeans, band t-shirts, metal studs, black boots, flannel shirts, piercings and tattoos.
After 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays for rock karaoke and a busy scene.
L’International (5/7 Rue Moret) hosts rock bands for free gigs in the basement.
