Dating back to at least the thirteenth century, the Procession of San Fermín is a festival tradition that brings out Pamplona’s clergy, city officials, and local celebrities in all their finery. Accompanied by brass bands, the procession makes its somber way to the church of San Lorenzo to collect the figure of San Fermín, and then continues through the streets of the town, stopping here and there along the route to listen to a homage to the saint and impromptu songs of praise and celebration. The several hour procession is a colorful spectacle full of pomp and circumstance that adds to the overall grandeur of the Festival.
