Nederlander Theatre Information

Nederlander Theatre is a Broadway theater located in the Times Square district of New York City.

Built in 1921, the venue is one of nine Broadway theaters belonging to The Nederlander Organization, whose theaters have housed productions like Annie, The Lion King, and Wicked.

Productions at the Nederlander Theater include Tony Award-winning musicals like Rent and Newsies as wells as Million Dollar Quartet and some of Shakespeare’s well-known plays.

The theater’s most celebrated honor came when actress Lena Horne won the Tony Award for her performance in The Lady and Her Music. Other great performers at the Nederlander Theatre include Tom Conti, Roy Scheider, and Blythe Danner.

nlaureola Oct 16, 2012 3.0 stars Big stage for big productions I just saw Newsies at the Nederlander and have seen other Disney productions there before. It's a great, big theatre with all the bells and whistles a massive stage like that requires. And the shows are always just as big. There's plenty of room on stage for extravagant set pieces, and the lighting rig is set up to accommodate for pieces tall and wide. That being said, the large space does have a few drawbacks. There are 21 bathrooms upstairs, and only one downstairs. The proportion of the balcony to orchestra is just off in general. Since the balcony has such a large over-hang, the last few rows in the orchestra section are just SOL when it comes to any of the high-flying numbers or towering set pieces. Hopefully, this is a consideration when choreographing, but either way it can take away from the grandeur of the stage.
