The Bergen Performing Arts Center located in Englewood, New Jersey is a not-for-profit community theater whose mission is to encourage the performance arts. Originally the John Harms Center for performing arts, the BergenPAC took over the space in 2004, continuing the center's community-oriented approach to exhibiting and promoting emerging acts.
Through several renovations to the theater since its opening in 1925, a signature feature that has endured to the present is the original acoustics of the theater, which were created in order to naturally amplify sounds from the main stage. The signature acoustics at Bergen Performing Arts Center were described by Tony Bennett as the "best-sounding theatrical hall in the American song tradition."
Theatrical events at Bergen Performing Arts Center include concerts and plays, and the space is also frequently used as a recording studio. The theater has a capacity of just over 1,300 guests in the orchestra, mezzanine and balcony seating. Past performers at Bergen Performing Arts Center include k.d. lang, Sting, the Dixie Chicks, and Vanessa Williams. There is also a small art gallery within the theater that showcases local artists.
An additional facet that the BergenPAC prides itself on is its numerous classes for all ages that encourage members of the community to get involved and develop theatrical skills. Tickets for Bergen Performing Arts Center are available online, over the phone and at the box office, and parking is available in public lots near the center.
