The Millrose Games is an annual indoor track and field meet held in the Armory in Washington Square in Manhattan on the first Friday in February. Built in 1911, the Armory, formally known as the Fort Washington Avenue Armory, is home to the National Track and Field Hall of Fame and capable of seating 2,300 spectators.
Beginning in 1908, the Millrose Games begin in the afternoon and run deep into the night with the featured event being the Wanamaker Mile named after the founder of the Wanamaker Department Store, Rodman Wanamaker. The Millrose Games is an elite track and field meet with many Olympic medal winners competing year in and year out. Past Millrose Games champions include Carl Lewis, Marcus O’Sullivan, and Jackie Joyner-Kersee.
