The Big East Conference Men's Basketball Tournament is a college basketball championship that's played every year at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Madison Square Garden was opened in its current location in 1968 and has a seating capacity of 19,763 for basketball games. The Garden is the current home of the New York Knicks, New York Rangers, and the Big East Tournament.
The Big East Championship is a single-elimination tournament that's played by the 16 teams in the Big East and are seeded based on regular season records. Teams in the Big East include Syracuse, Louisville, Marquette, Connecticut, Georgetown, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Villanova, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Providence, St. John's, DePaul, Seton Hall, Rutgers, and South Florida.
The 2012 winner of the Big East was Louisville and notable Big East players include Chris Mullin, Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, Caron Butler, Ben Gordon, and Kemba Walker.
