Tribeca, New York –
Tucked behind a set of rusted industrial doors topped by a glowing red orb that reads 71 lurks Smith & Mills, a compact but comfortable Tribeca hangout perfect for laid-back cocktails served up by an attentive coterie of tattooed rockers.
Those venturing past the gates will find a one-room restaurant and bar festooned with ivy and industrial refuse and full of hip young downtown artists huddling over Old Fashioneds and admiring the impressive collection of dusty apothecary bottles.
Low-key afternoons give way to more bustling evenings when pre-club diners pack into the cream-colored banquettes for upscale Hungarian meatballs and succotash in the front, as loft-dwelling creative professionals and successful entertainment types jostle for position at the bar in the back, quaffing beer and gently nodding to the music.
As the night wears on, the mood mellows out again as younger just-off-work production firm types show up to unwind with a Jever.
Relaxed and unpretentious, Smith & Mills is a quirky little spot perfect for dinner dates or just sharing a round with friends.
Cool entertainment professionals, hip young locals, and creative types, 20s to early 40s.
