Named after a mythical siren of the Rhine River, Loreley Restaurant & Biergarten lures a clientele of beer lovers both day and night.
The rustic brick and wood front room sports pine tables and a long black bar, where financial types and young professionals mingle with hip downtown artists over savory German food and massive steins of Spaten Lager.
A seasonal, tent-covered outdoor beer garden is usually abuzz with loud chatter as patrons cluster at communal picnic tables, while both indoor and outdoor spaces get rowdy on Saturday and Sunday afternoons when locals flock to this favorite neighborhood watering hole for brunch, and a younger set shows up early to get a head start on drinking.
A jovial stein-clinking vibe pervades early on, but the beer goes down easy and gets progressively more raucous for the hard-drinking crowd, which usually doesn't disperse until the wee hours.
Authentic and friendly, Loreley is probably best experienced with a group of friends with plenty of time to while away the hours over stellar beer, mouthwatering brats, and talks about the previous night’s escapades.
Diverse mix of financial types, young professionals, artists, and service industry workers, 20s and 30s.
Ambient music. TVs tuned to sports.
German menu includes schnitzels, wursts, and fries. Happy Hour Su–Th 5–7pm.
Appetizers $5+, entrées $10+. Beer $3–$16, wine $8+, cocktails $9+.
Casual: jeans, t-shirts, flats, sneakers.
Saturday and Sunday brunches for a packed scene, or any time during the week for after-work drinks.
Schiller's Liquor Bar (131 Rivington Street) also has a great brunch party and similar after-work and dinner crowds.
