Party Earth Legends Review

The Scene

Situated just across the street from the Empire State Building, Legends is a classic sports bar and pub catering to tourists, sports fans, and midtown denizens.

Situated just across the street from the Empire State Building, Legends is a classic sports bar and pub catering to tourists, sports fans, and midtown denizens.

By day, a bustling lunch crowd of local business people and tired travelers with kids in tow settles into the booths up front under the mural of Roman philosophers, or descends to the spacious white-tableclothed dining room in the back where diners enjoy a menu of hearty pub food.

Game nights see an influx of sports fans gathering on stools around the sleek hardwood bar and its flat-screen TVs, while autumn Saturdays bring in the drawling blue-and-yellow-clad fans of the LSU Tigers, since Legends is the school’s unofficial New York gathering spot.

Couples and small groups who prefer to avoid the jock set can hang out on plush leather couches in the more intimate balcony lounge, which offers a bird’s-eye view of the action below.

Busy but laid back most of the week, the venue picks up energy starting on Wednesday nights, when lovers of live band karaoke pile in to sing their favorites, and continuing through the weekend with video DJs and a club scene drawing folks from other boroughs and tourists looking for a night on the town.

Although not a New York hotspot, Legends does offer a classic pub and sports experience in the heart of the city.

Strange as this sounds to do in a Sports bar, my husband and I booked our Wedding reception here. We had 20 people at 3pm on a Friday. Everyone was so sweet and helpful. We arrived early (we expected to have to wait in line longer at City Hall to get married) and they were so nice. Another party was just finishing up in the back, so they set up,a little area in front to wait, then still were able to seat us 20 minutes before our reservation started. Lunch was awesome and the service staff was very attentive. They were quick to get more drinks or anything else we needed. They were also very helpful with storing and serving the cake so we didn't have to lug the damn thing around with us. Finally, after our big meal, we had booked part of the mezzanine for our night reception. The upstairs area is so nice!!! Love it. And the bartenders up there were great!! The bar itself is really pretty, lots of wood molding, etc. Even though its in midtown, it doesn't really have that feel to me. Just a great experience all around. And special thanks to Reena and Liam for helping with the planning!!!

First off let me say that I haven't tried the food here, so I can't comment on the edible side of this venue. So let's skip that. Let's start with what I like. The place itself. Not many great bars in the area, and this place is pretty good and pretty big. Large first floor with a smaller but still nice sized second floor. The second floor is my favorite section, with big comfy, antique-style couches with a more private, darker feel. The first floor is more open and feels spacious, good for watching sports. The drinks are nothing to write home about, standard bar drinks made decently, and a few good drafts. Not too pricy though, especially for the area, so if you find yourself around, stop on by.
