Discreetly tucked beneath a row of townhouses and simply labeled “21,” Hotel Griffou is a cool and sexy bar and restaurant that occupies the same spot as the original namesake hotel, a 19th-century hangout for writers and artists like Mark Twain and Oscar Wilde.
Now popular with a stylish crowd of moneyed hipsters, A-listers, and fashionistas, the posh venue consists of a collection of six small rooms, each with a distinct décor and vibe to match the moods of its diverse clientele.
Guests first descend into the main barroom where sharply-dressed locals gather around the deep mahogany bar for a quick bite, and designer-clad clusters huddle on upholstered divans to savor specialty cocktails and await their dinner reservations.
Surprisingly unpretentious, the place exudes a sociable, laid-back speakeasy vibe that carries over into the eclectic dining rooms, which include the red-and-pink Studio complete with café tables and unfinished paintings on easels; the Library, where musty books, old portraits, tufted leather banquettes, and candlelit tables create a masculine yet homey atmosphere; and the Salon, where upholstered settees and small tables offer plenty of space for patrons to linger over dinner and conversation.
Wine lovers can reserve the one large table in the stone cavern, while those who prefer an airier environment can take their drinks to the Palm Terrace to contemplate the stars through the skylights.
Perfect for both dining and drinking, Hotel Griffou offers a mouthwatering menu, an exclusive yet welcoming vibe, and such incredible attention to detail that every visit promises a unique experience.
