Anyone who thinks of theater and the arts, no matter where they are in the world, almost invariably thinks of performing arts in New York. After all, this is the city of Broadway, home to a whopping forty professional theaters located on or near Broadway Avenue.
As a consequence, NYC bursts with musicals, dance performances, variety shows, and so much more. Broadway theater offers denizens the highest concentration of commercial theater on the planet, and annually its myriad performing arts venues rack in more than a billion dollars in ticket sales. Major theaters include the Foxwoods, the Al Hirschfeld, Eugene O'Neill, and the Union Square Theatre, and that doesn’t even begin to include the dozens upon dozens of Off-Broadway theaters that also showcase incredible talent.
Then of course there’s the institution that is Madison Square Garden, a massive sports, music, and NYC performing arts center that even people who have never set foot in the Big Apple will recognize seeing as it has been thrilling attendees of every permutation imaginable since the 60s.
The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts is similarly massive and maybe even better known, as this incredible complex has nearly thirty indoor and outdoor performance facilities that include The Metropolitan Opera House, Avery Fisher Symphony Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and the famous Juilliard School.
And even all of that barely tips the iceberg of performing arts venues in New York, because no matter where you find yourself in this bustling metropolis, and no matter what you’re into – burlesque, cabaret, magic shows, drag shows, and everything else – there’s bound to be a venue nearby that will satisfy your need for New York performing arts and entertainment.
