Built in 1929, this former movie palace in the Bronx has been restored to its original grandeur and is the site of concerts and other live performances. With a capacity of 3,689, the Paradise is still one of the 25 largest movie theaters ever built in the United States.
Main-floor and balcony seats are surrounded by over-the-top opulent décor – its inspiration was a Baroque Italian garden. The lobby has three domes with murals themed “sound, story, and film.”
Today, the space is a favorite of alt-rock bands, and concerts at Paradise Theater have included The Killers and The XX, hip-hop acts like Lil Kim, and old-school acts like Slick Rick. The Paradise serves food and drinks. It is located in the Fordham neighborhood; take the B, D, or 4 to Fordham Rd.
