Once past the opulent black-and-white marble hall, patrons find a grouping of indoor/outdoor spaces with retractable walls and ceilings, including a main patio splendidly decked out in leather and black wicker wingbacks, intricate wicker tables and ottomans, twinkling lights, and a long aluminum bar adorned with a stenciled filigree pattern.

During the week, the venue fills up with conservatively-dressed business people and ladies in cocktail dresses, who show up to chat with colleagues over after-work whiskeys or to network and mingle to a background of ambient jazz, while weekends draw a younger, but still affluent, clientele.

Two partially covered dens fitted with pewter leather banquettes, white linen curtains, and suede padded walls offer an intimate atmosphere for cocktails and conversation, while guests in search of a more exclusive vibe can check out the decadent private room with its gold-detailed sofa, burgundy area rugs, black chiffon curtains, flat-screen TV, and neoclassical wooden bar.

A smaller outdoor patio with ivy-draped walls and a rough-cut marble fireplace attracts a contingent of the upper-crust, who filter in to recline in red-cushioned wicker cabanas and socialize before heading out to their weekend homes.

While the ambiance at Upstairs is definitely sophisticated, the friendly patrons create a refreshingly unpretentious and welcoming atmosphere for a low-key evening out.

Visited this restaurant with a Living Social deal which included brunch for two (2 mimosas, 2 juices, 2 entrees and 2 desserts) and was quite worth it. The restaurant is located on the 31st floor of the Kimberly Hotel. Once you arrive on the floor, you immediately see the beautiful view it has of midtown. The restaurant was very trendy and upscale. A majority of the people were wearing business casual clothing (jeans, collared shirt/sweater, shoes), although I wore a pair of white dressy sneakers in without an issue. As for the food, it was delicious, but nothing to jump up and down and scream about. We ordered the TRUFFLED DUCK EGG TOAST, DUCK PROSCIUTTO & GRUYERE CHEESE and KOBE BURGER. The truffled duck egg toast was very good, but not memorable. It was basically duck meat on top of a toasted bread with a side of french fries and a salad. The Kobe Burger was very juicy and quite big. It also came with a side of french fries and a salad. As oddly as it sounds, the salad stuck out the most to me with the acidity of the dressing complimenting the romaine salad very well. The atmosphere was lively with a house band, although they were quite loud and it was hard to talk over them. A nice brunch spot with a trendy crowd and nice view of the city.
