SoHo, New York –
A jewel box-sized lounge atop the bohemian chic 60 Thompson Hotel, A60 is a tiny, members-only hotspot where the views of New York are rivaled only by the stylish patrons.
Entrance is mainly limited to hotel guests and card-carrying members, though mere mortals can gain access on Mondays based on availability.
Split into two distinct sections, the larger side of the rooftop is strewn with potted trees, teak wood tables, and cream duvets and couches, where trendy downtowners and savvy tourists indulge in specialty drinks like the Lychee Martini and Passion Fruit Margaritas.
Dapper finance types sidle up to the nearby bar to chat with Louboutin-wedged girls, all the while plying them with cucumber vodkas served up by staff in outfits as alluring as some of the patrons’.
The other side of the space is more intimate, with more lush greenery and upscale patio furniture, where groups of touring businessmen and young well-dressed couples on dates can kick off a chill evening.
Music is usually low – it’s hardly a place for raging dance offs – so amped-up Euro party girls are not often found here, but the relaxed vibe helps keep the focus on the sweeping views of Manhattan and the Empire State Building looming in the distance.
An outdoor oasis for anyone looking to rise above SoHo, A60 still draws well-heeled locals years after opening, promising ASexy crowd and ASultry night.
Stylish suits, fashionable ladies, dapper couples, classy hotel guests, private celebratory parties, a few moneyed creative types based on the night, mellow groups with money to burn but without the levels of pretention commonplace Uptown, 20s to 30s.
Ambient music always at conversation-friendly levels.
Small plates from KITTICHAI, a Thai restaurant in the hotel’s lobby, can be ordered.
Membership inquiries can be sent to a60@thompsonhotels.com.
Small plates $8–$16. Beer $8+, wine $11–$20, cocktails $12–$16, bottle service $270–$600.
Dressy: trendy Paul Smith and Tom Ford suits, slick button-downs, high-end corporate attire, lots of Theory and Elie Tahari, geometric short shorts, mod miniskirts, chunky Louboutins, Rossi wedges.
Limited access and seasonal hours all but ensure a cool exclusive party scene any night.
KITTICHAI, the Thai-fusion restaurant off the hotel’s lobby, can make for a great spot to fill up immediately upon arrival. Near the restaurant, the hotel’s Thom Bar, while not as exclusive as A60, is a luxurious lounge in which to grab a few drinks.
